Toronado on Tanner Bank on first of a 2.5 day Trip
Skipper Ray Lagmay has just called in from the Toronado out of Pierpoint landing in Long Beach from Tanner Bank on a 2.5 day trip. A little breezy out there with no fish on deck so far. He has not been on the bank very long so stay tuned as we take you through the great trip.
We had a nice afternoon of fishing on yellowtail at the island. Most of the yellows were in the 16-20 pound class with a few bigger ones mixed in. Now that everyone has a couple of fish and with the weather coming down, we will be looking for tuna below the islands next. Wish us luck... JUSTIN
Seaforth Landing checking in this morning as they heard from the Pacific Voyager. They have 20 yellowfin on deck to 45 pounds with 1 albacore as of 8:30 this morning. The rest of the fleet is having pretty much the same action with some boat doing a bit better.
Seaforth Landing has a 1.5 day trip leaving tonight and they have trips lined up for you daily.
Call 619-224-3383 for trip information and reservations.
Shawn is busy so he had to yell at us real quick, they have been in a long plunker bite, and dropping down in line size has helped people get hooked up on some big yellow fin tuna 28 to 35 pounds. Stay tuned as we will have more reports right here on 976-TUNA.com
Today was a lot like yesterday, good fishing and good weather for the most part, as the wind has picked up a bit. With lots of big yellows and some calicos for all on board, we are going to look offshore for tomorrow. Please wish us luck, the Indy crew
We are still seeing nice size yellowfin tuna and they are not very far out. Some of the best fishing this week was right in the Bay of Palmas, directly in front of most East Cape resorts. Anglers could find schools of Dorado, Yellowfin, Pargo, Pampano and bonitas just a few miles from the dock.
As most know, that is not usually the case, but for several days this week anglers enjoyed the short boat ride to the fishing grounds. Not all the fishing was close enough to see land. The Marlin and Sails were tougher than usual this week. We did see some nice Striped Marlin and Sailfish out there, but with the inshore action being as good as it was this week, many decided to stay close. We are still seeing some nice Roosters near the beach at Punta Colorada, with the biggest this week coming in at 45lbs.
The Squid have moved on and most anglers are now using sardines, mullet, frozen ballyhoo, and lures. This week’s picture is from Jim Gallivan of Santa Clarita, CA who landed this nice 35lb. Dorado while fishing out of Hotel Palmas De Cortez. Jim was on the super panga Splash II with captain Ernesto. The dorado was landed while in a tuna boil near Punta Pescadero. Having landed 5 medium size tuna, Jim threw back another sardine and to his surprise hooked this nice Dorado. That’s it for this week amigos! Eddie Dalmau/Baja’s Van Wormer Resorts
Call 877-777-8862 for information on any of the VanWormer Resorts and book the trip of a lifetime today.
The Mardiosa checking in with good action at Catalina today. 4 anglers out today went 3 for 9 on the yellowtail with good calico fishing, 4 barracuda, and 1 sargo.
For charter or open party information on the Mardiosa call 949-305-0165 and book your trip today.
Persons planning on going Twilight Fishing on the New Del Mar tonight and over the weekend are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to bring a SWEATSHIRT OR LIGHT JACKET.
Marina del Rey daytime temperatures have been hovering in the MID to LOW SIXTIES during the day, DROPPING INTO THE UPPER FIFTIES in the evening under cool, overcast skies. Persons accustomed to the recent BLAZING HEAT may find the COOL,MOIST SEA AIR uncomfortable and even if FISHING IS RED HOT there is no substitute for ADEQUATE CLOTHING to remain comfortable during outdoor activity.
For further information it is suggested you call the MARINA DEL REY SPORT office 310 822 3625 (822 DOCK) for latest updates. Thank You and Good Luck

It's a fact: Circle Hooks reduce mortality in fish.
Circle hooks have been used by fishermen around the world for many years. But it is only in the past 15 years that it has caught on amongst the recreational anglers. Numerous studies have shown the benefits of using circle hooks. From an increased hook up ratio to the high probability of survival of the fish upon release, there is no good reason NOT to use circle hooks in all methods of fishing.
When fishing with live or dead bait, traditional methods have entailed using a "J" hook and allowing the fish to swallow the bait. This is great if you're going to keep the fish, but what if you intend to release the fish? The idea behind releasing a fish is that it survive, as unharmed as possible, after release. A fish that has swallowed a bait with a J hook is likely to either be gut-hooked, or damaged internally by the hook as it makes its way out of the body when the angler applies pressure with the rod and reel.
Just got off the line with John at Seaforth Landing, the Pacific Voyager with 16 anglers had one hell of a trip. They returned today to the docks of Seaforth Landing with 16 very happy and tired anglers.
16 anglers had a epic drifts with 73 yellow fin tuna from 20 to 40 pounds, 22 blue fin tuna from 15 to 30 pounds, 1 albacore, and 6 skip jack. 102 mixed fish for the anglers aboard the Seaforth landing vessel, and Seaforth has boat on line for you.
Our weather was a bit windy today, with 15 to 18 knots of breeze, clear skies, and sunny.
Our morning started out with a decent Calico bass bite, (early morning). Most of the bass were in the 3 to 4 pound range. Around 05:00 Roy moved the boat, and the rest of the morning was slow. Around lunch the dinner bell went off. We had one drift for over 2 hours. It was steady, but not wide open. We would have a good afternoon of Yellowtail fishing. Most of the fish were in the 12 to 15 pound range.
We departed the area around 18:00 hours and now we are headed northwest. We will try our luck at offshore fishing tomorrow. So wish us luck and we will keep you posted on our daily events. The R/p crew.

Hi friends. Our weather got a little bit better throughout the duration of the night and currently our weather as of now is just some breeze with a light sea state. We kept on motoring up the line today and found ourselves at our familiar yellowtail spot to do a little fishing for some cows before calling it a trip. The afternoon bite or lackthereof didn't really materialize but we gave it a good shot up until dinner time. We managed to capture a few nice one and some calicos in absolutely prisitine weather but the hot bite here was nonexistent. Back to the weather, it honestly seems like with the exception of the days traveling down that we haven't had a nice weather day the entire trip. Bottom line, we were ecstatic to be out of the weather and it was a nice day for "change of pace" fishing. What I mean by that is for the past 5 days we've been doing some hardcore angling for large tuna and wahoo so to just wet a line and not worry about making a huge catch was a breath of fresh air. We weren't worried about trying to yank on a big yellowfin or trying to catch up with a fast paced wahoo bite that gives us the adrenaline rush that we all desire. The day was reminisent of when you're on the bicycle at the gym and you do the 2 minute cool down after the intense pedaling session is complete. This afternoon was the 2 minute cool down. Don't get me wrong, we would've loved to have pulled on some premium yellowtail's but it never happened so we took it in stride and enjoyed our last hours of fishing with our good friends. Just like when you go to the pond as a kid and hope to catch a blue-gill or something like that. Nice way to wrap this trip up that's for sure.
So we're done. We anchored up and enjoyed a tasty pork loin dinner before we pushed the throttles forward and set her on course for San Diego. We'll be traveling all day tomorrow and hopefully the weather will cooperate. The forecast looks OK, we'll see if there is any truth to that. Hopefully the weather man is wrong but in a good way. We'll check back with you tomorrow and thanks for checking in.
Back on the World Famous EL BUDSTER. Yancy Nichol catches and releases a 150 lb. STRIPED MARLIN. It is caught on a live Caballito. The fighting time was 40 minutes. His party also catches eight DORADOS ( 15 - 20 lbs. ). They keep four and release four. Fishing on the EL BUDSTER II. The Kurt Schill party from Detroit, MI catches nine DORADOS ( 15 - 20 lbs. ). They keep five and release four. All the fish were caught at the Lighthouse Reef. The water temp. was 81 - 82 degrees.
The Condor checked in last night as they finished up their 1.5 day trip. They ended up with 30 mixed bluefin, yellowfin, with 10 albacore to 35 pounds, and some skipjack to go with it.
The Condor goes again tonight for a 1.5 day trip then again on Sunday night.
For our 1.5 day trip, we came 120 miles on reports of a few yellowtail on kelps and a few tuna on common dolphin. Unfortunately we didn't find any kelps and found no tuna on dolphin. We ended up going in to the coast to try for some rockfish and fish a little, instead of driving around all day for nothing.
We managed to catch around 80 rockfish, a mixture of red rock cod, ling cod, sheepshead and whitefish. The weather is calm and I think everyone enjoyed a few hours of fishing. The offshore scene is still unpredictable and so we are unsure of what we are doing next trip.
Stay tuned, Capt Art
Plenty of room on some great upcoming trips.
